LF Tank & Healer

I was just reading through a post on Clockwork Gamer about how almost all MMOs have a healer class that is required for any significant group encounter in the game. The end of the post really sums up the frustration that I have with Warcraft.

As much as I love playing the healer, I like the idea of a world without healers - where any group of players can form a group. Oh sure, some groups might be more efficient than others, but that doesn’t mean 5 players are sitting around waiting for 40 minutes till they can find a “healer” or a “tank” of the appropriate level.

I'd go even farther and say that requiring 5 players for an instance is too rigid also. I usually have small, unpredictable amounts of time to play. Trying to round up a group of the right mix of classes from my guild in a short amount of time is usually difficult.

I'd love it if I could just jump into an instance with 1 or 2 other guildies. I think I'd have a lot more fun than just running around doing daily quests or the drudgery of leveling my alt characters.

The Ron Paul Phenomenon on PBS

The PBS show, NOW, is doing an episode about Ron Paul's campaign this week. The preview looks very interesting. It is supposed to air on the 14th which is just a couple of days before the next big fundraiser.

My Xbox 360 Repair Experience

Two days before Halo 3 came out, my 360 died with the infamous 3 rings of death failure. I immediately put in a repair request on xbox.com. This was during the weekend so I knew it would be a few days before I got a box to return it in.

Microsoft shipped me a box to return it on that arrived on Tuesday. I shipped it back on Wednesday, and it arrived at the repair center on Friday. By Sunday night, they had shipped it back out to me.

I got the box back last night (Tuesday). 11 days from failure to return including 4 weekend days. Not nearly as bad as I expected.

It looks like they sent my original 360 back to me so I guess they repaired it. It booted up right away, but it did lock up almost immediately in Halo 3. It wasn't the same failure so I guess I'll just see what happens. Since that first lock-up, I haven't seen any more failures.
